The Lands of Don't Give A Damn A good friend called me sobbing This time she wasn't well She'd taken all these sleeping pills to numb the pain of having failed. When pressed to talk She'd only say, "I am tired of who I am" The time was ripe to share my spot in the land of "Don't Give A Damn" I really don't go that often now, In fact, I hate to go You pay a lot to venture there and even more to get back home No need to pack a suitcase you just travel with what you've got You'll find in the land of "Don't Give A Damn" you really don't need a lot. No since of time in "Don't Give A Damn" You are on time when you appear don't offer up your apologies cause they are totally wasted there The locals are indifferent If you leave them to their way Their philosophy is not to give a damn So you are free to go or stay In the land of "Don't Give A Damn" your emotions are put to rest Empathy becomes elusive prey and Its capture is your quest If you catch it quickly, well, you're blessed and that is fact Some have never found it again and have yet to make it back. Compassion will be your compass you'll need it to get back out There is empathy hidden deep within to restore what you're without I rarely start out toward that place Not my usual vacation spot Sometimes my path detours that way whether I plan the trip or not So don't put it on your travel list or make any reservations Someone is certain to summon you there and provide chauffeured transportation I'd advise you not to go at all Its a place you don't need to be When they knock, try not to answer the door You can die right here for free Die you will in "Don't Give A Damn" if your emotions don't revive its a place that sure to beckon you when its too painful to be alive No disrespect to "Don't Give A Damn" It can be a useful place If you understand the purpose that validates the space it takes Not a place for lengthy visits Just a place to stop and play Tarry in the land too long You may forget to find your way And if that ever happens, you forget what lifes about Now, three times as long to figure the shit you thought you'd already figured out Cause you'll never be sure if you really know what you thought you knew and learned You know you can't keep what you had before Scared to lose what you rightfully earned Well, if you manage to figure all that out then you accept what is as so No tears are found in Don't Give A Damn Way too dry for them to flow To survive the land of Don't Give A Damn Your soul must be revived Home will seem much nearer when it isn't heavy to feel alive I've traveled the lands of Don't Give A Damn and managed to survive once you understand the natives its real easy to stay alive It doesn't even take me long to get out once I've been in I've even learned to cut the cost As often as I've been I don't get summoned much these days but I"ll still visit now and again Wouldn't want to lose my spot in there (comes in handy now and then) And now you'll start your journey and you know I bid you well I hope you make it back real soon with lots of stuff to tell Now travel straight along this road and watch your exits well If you miss the ramp to Don't Give A Damn you'll be forced to go to HELL. ©Lisa Lawrence-Hudson, February 2006 All Rights Reserved |
