Just dropped in to sit a spell,
hope you can get with that!
'Went back down to "Don't Give a Damn"
and I'm just now gettin' back.
Everyone is chillin' there
'say everythings 'just swell' .
They claim the place is cleaner now
but I really couldn't tell.
I'd have made my stay a little longer
but I'd had all I could stand
I wouldn't have ventured there at all
'cept to meet my "Memory Man"
He's that no-appointment lover ,
undercover, on the prowl ,
late at night he mixes potions
memory mixtures laced with bile
just one sip will send you reeling
searing images all the while
its your heart and soul he's healing
bad memories leave
as he beguiles
Its a special made elixer
his memory making specialty
made with ancient tools and methods
so you know it ain't for free
Can't say how long it took to make it'
And right then, I didn't care'
It made me forget the reason why
I'd even ventured there!
Its possible that you've met him
cause he's such a likeable guy
That sexy, lazy way he talks
belies the fact that he's really shy
He speaks the truth and rarely lies
His terms are posted at the door
He'll remind you gently as you sip
to not forget what you went there for
So I sipped my potion carefully
(can't see if you're walking blind)
I read the terms accordingly and
signed on the dotted line.
See, when the deal was done we vowed
to exchange our memories in kind
I'd gather the memories he made for me
and leave the ones I took behind
He doesn't time his visits
no one is scheduled after you
His next appointment won't arrive
until you receive your due.
But when the trip is over,
you'd better hope that you were through
because your glass will just sit empty
your rendezvous now deja'vu
Just sit and savor new memories
that the Memory man
made for you
Now, I'm home from "Don't Give A Damn"
with nothing to unpack
It took all I gained from going there
To safely make it back~
It doesn't matter much to me..
Not much I really lack
The memory man has set me free
and left my heart intact.
